Chapter 17
Parenthetical – A mystery revealed.
This is not a span of time, but rather like a time out to describe to us the Babylon that is going to be destroyed in Chapter 18. The woman sitting on a scarlet beast is Babylon, revealed to us in 18:10.
Mystery Revealed – Woman is that great city that has dominion over kings of earth.
The great harlot is Mystery Babylon, city that rules all the kingdoms, is rich and ‘they’ hate her. Not an apostate church – but a city that is rich ‘arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication……….the kings of the earth committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her…..merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of objects of ivory, precious wood, bronze, iron and marble ……and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses…..and bodies and souls of men.’ The ‘Islam’ religion is the worlds religion now! Not hard to imagine the Arabs of today’s world, who hate all who do not worship their way.
How it all ties together:
Rev 13:1And I stood upon the sand of the sea (‘sea’ in scripture imagery stands for the populace, the unorganized mass of mankind (Isa 60:5; Dan 7:2,3; Mt.13:47; Lk 21:25;)),
and saw a beast (17:3And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast [which was] full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns)
rise up out of the sea (‘sea’ in scripture imagery stands for the populace, the unorganized mass of mankind (Isa 60:5; Dan 7:2,3; Mt.13:47; Lk 21:25;)),
having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, (17:3And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast [which was] full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns) (Rev 12:3And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. 12:9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.) (Rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years) (These 10 crowns/horns (see Dan 7:24) are kings/countries that once were the Ottoman Empire. (Dan 2:43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. 44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, [but] it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. (The millennial kingdom of Christ)45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream [is] certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.)

The empire officially ended on the 1st November 1922, when the Ottoman sultanate was abolished and Turkey was declared a republic. The Ottoman caliphate continued as an institution, with greatly reduced authority, until it too was abolished on the 3rd March 1924.]

2 And the beast (17:3 a scarlet beast [which was] full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns)
which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as [the feet] of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: (Daniel 7:3″And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other.
4″The first [was] like a lion, and had eagle’s wings. I watched till its wings were plucked off; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.
5″And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and [had] three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said thus to it: ‘Arise, devour much flesh!’
6″After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it.
7″After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It [was] different from all the beasts that [were] before it, and it had ten horns.
8″I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, [were] eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.
17’Those great beasts, which are four, [are] four kings [which] arise out of the earth.
23″Thus he said: ‘The fourth beast shall be A fourth kingdom on earth, Which shall be different from all [other] kingdoms, And shall devour the whole earth, Trample it and break it in pieces.
24The ten horns [are] ten kings [Who] shall arise from this kingdom. And another shall rise after them; He shall be different from the first [ones], And shall subdue three kings. (ISIS)
25He shall speak [pompous] words against the Most High, Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law. Then [the saints] shall be given into his hand For a time and times and half a time. (3 1/2 years)
26’But the court shall be seated, And they shall take away his dominion, To consume and destroy [it] forever). (Dan 7:17 These great beasts, which are four, [are] four kings, [which] shall arise out of the earth.)
40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all [things]: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. 41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. 42 And [as] the toes of the feet [were] part of iron, and part of clay, [so] the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. 43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. 44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, (The millennial kingdom of Christ) which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, [but] it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. 45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream [is] certain, and the interpretation thereof sure. gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. (Rev 17:17 “For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. Isa 14:24 The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, [so] shall it stand: 25 That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. 26 This [is] the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this [is] the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. 27 For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul [it]? and his hand [is] stretched out, and who shall turn it back?)
3And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
4And they worshipped the dragon (Rev 12:9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.) saying, Who [is] like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things (now speaking of the antichrist man, a leader)
and blasphemies; (“Allah”- “Praise “Allah” – worship – acknowledges his power) (17:3And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast [which was] full of names of blasphemy having seven heads and ten horns)
and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months. (3 ½ years)
6And he opened his mouth (now speaking of the antichrist man, a leader)
in blasphemy (“Allah”- “Praise “Allah”)
against God, to blaspheme His name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. (Rev 17:17 “For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. (see Isa 14:24-27))
8And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, (“Allah”- “Praise “Allah” – worship – acknowledges his power, bowing down) (Rev 17:17 “For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. (see Isa 14:24-27))
whose names are not written in the book of life (the unsaved) of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9If any man have an ear, let him hear.
10He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
11And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. (Rev 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.)
12And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. (“Allah”- “Praise “Allah” – worship – acknowledges his power, bowing down)
13And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth (Rev 17:17 “For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. (see Isa 14:24-27))
by [the means of] those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. (bow down, convert to, “Allah”- “Praise “Allah” – worship – acknowledges his power)
16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: (Rev 14:9 Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 “And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”)
17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six. (In the Codex Sinaiticus there are three Greek symbols that have been interpreted to be 666.)

7 But the angel said to me, “Why did you marvel? 10 “There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, [and] the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time (ISIS Leader?).
11 “The beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition. (the Ottoman Empire),

15 Then he said to me, “The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.
16 “And the ten horns which you saw on the beast (These 10 horns are kings/countries that once were the Ottoman Empire. Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Qatar, Jordan, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Libya corresponding to the ten toes of the image. Dan 2:41-45),
these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. (Chap 18)

{3 The Scarlet Beast}

The great harlot = BabylonRev 13:1 And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads.
Rev 17:6 KJV – And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
Rev 17:7 But the angel said to me, “Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.” Rev 12:3
Mystery Revealed 1st Beast 7 heads, 10 horns The woman –Babylon – see 17:15Rev 17:8 “The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition (9:2). And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.” Rev 9:2,11; 11:7; 12:3,9,13; 13:1; 17:3,8,16; 19:20; 20:2,3,10; (17:8- 17:14 talks about the 1st beast.)
1st Beast is from bottomless pit and goes to perdition (Book of Life) “whose names are not written in the Book of Life..” “We don’t understand real evil, organized evil, very well. This is evil incarnate. People like Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,” the ISIS leader, “have been in a fight for a decade. Babylon
The city, Babylon, is not in view here, as the immediate context shows. It is important to note the significance of the name when used symbolically. “Babylon” is the Greek form: invariably in the O.T. Hebrew the word is simply Babel, the meaning of which is confusion, and in this sense the word is used symbolically.
(1) In the prophets, when the actual city is not meant, the reference is to the “confusion” into which the whole social order of the world has fallen under Gentile world-domination. (See “Times of the Gentiles,” Luke 21:24; Revelation 16:14; Isaiah 13:4 gives the divine view of the welter of warring Gentile powers. The divine order is given in Isa. 11. Israel in her own land, the centre of the divine government of the world and channel of the divine blessing; and the Gentiles blessed in association with Israel. Anything else is, politically, mere “babel.”
(2) In Revelation 14:8-11; 16:19 the Gentile world-system is in view in connection with Armageddon; Revelation 16:14; 19:21 while in Rev 17, the reference is to apostate Christianity, destroyed by the nations Revelation 17:16 headed up under the Beast ; Daniel 7:8; Revelation 19:20 and false prophet. In Isaiah the political Babylon is in view, literally as to the then existing city, and symbolically as to the times of the Gentiles. In the Revelation both the symbolical- political and symbolical-religious Babylon are in view, for there both are alike under the tyranny of the Beast. Religious Babylon is destroyed by political Babylon Revelation 17:16 political Babylon by the appearing of the Lord Revelation 19:19-21. That Babylon the city is not to be rebuilt is clear from ; Isaiah 13:19-22; Jeremiah 51:24-26,62-64. By political Babylon is meant the Gentile world-system. (See “World,” ; John 7:7; Revelation 13:8) It may be added that, in Scripture symbolism, Egypt stands for the world as such; Babylon for the world of corrupt power and corrupted religion; Nineveh for the pride, the haughty glory of the world.

State asks for delay in response to petition against illegal construction by UN in Jerusalem, seeks to tour compound with UN permission.
The Jerusalem District Court last week ordered the Jerusalem Municipality and the Israel Land Authority to respond to the petition filed last week by Regavim against the United Nations over an illegal construction boom at the UN headquarters in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood, which belongs to the State of Israel.
The state, for its part, has filed a request for an additional postponement to the Jerusalem District Court, which indicates that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been in contact with various elements of the UN, and has asked the UN to allow a visit by professional bodies on behalf of the State of Israel.
The representatives of the Foreign Ministry also held a preliminary visit to the site, during which UN representatives claimed that the construction work currently under way without building permits from the Jerusalem Municipality and without the consent of the State of Israel belongs to the area, as “arising from the need for essential renovations in the historic building, which was erected in 1929.”
The state explained its request for an additional period, also because of “the need to formulate the State’s position on the legal aspects [of the case], including aspects relating to the immunity of the UN, as well as the need to further clarify the factual basis and the continuation of diplomatic contacts with the UN.”
The suit filed by the Regavim movement last month noted the flood of serious building violations committed by the UN in recent years, including concrete castings in the historic building, the construction of an illegal multi-story office building, a hangar storage and a pirate gas station that is also an environmental hazard.
After the liberation of Jerusalem, the Israeli government gave UNTSO, a UN agency, the right to use the area, free of charge, to supervise the cease-fire between Israel and its neighbors after the war.

A US diplomat in Doha worried that, if the row continues, “the GCC could harm it own interests in this fight and is at risk of becoming more vulnerable to Iranian encroachment.” Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani will be meeting with Saudi emir counterpart Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah in Kuwait to try to ease tensions.
The hesitation wasn’t limited to Qatar. Iraqi foreign minister Ibrahim al-Ja’afari said that his country “would never join the anti-Iran coalition” in an interview with Spanish newspaper ABC. Instead he pointed to Turkey, which he accused of illegally maintaining a military presence in Iraq since 2015. Iran, the old enemy of Iraq, is a comparatively insignificant challenge according to al-Ja’afari.
Twenty-five hundred miles away in Pakistan, Islamabad has been unreceptive to Saudi and American offers to join an anti-Iran alliance. Pakistan’s government initially was happy to participate in the Saudi-led Islamic Military Alliance against Terrorism (IMAT), but they pumped the brakes on that decision when the Saudis suggested IMAT would counter Iran as well.
OIC – Arab League, Organization of Islamic Cooperation

Leaders of Muslim nations met in Rabat to establish the OIC on 25 September 1969.
The OIC adopted the Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam to serve as a guidance for the member states in the matters of human rights in as much as they are compatible with the Sharia, or Quranic Law.
An official from the pan-Arab bloc told AFP Arabi had “instructed the Arab League’s UN representative to initiate urgent consultations within the Arab group calling for an emergency security meeting of the Security Council.”
An international organization founded in 1969 consisting of 57 member states. The organisation states that it is “the collective voice of the Muslim world” and works to “safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony”. The OIC has permanent delegations to the United Nations and the European Union. ISTANBUL (AFP) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday chairs an emergency summit of the world’s main pan-Islamic body, seeking to marshal Muslim leaders towards a coordinated response to the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Erdogan, whose country holds the rotating chairmanship of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will be hoping to unite often feuding Muslim leaders into a tough final statement on the move by US President Donald Trump.
But bridging the gaps in a Muslim political community that includes arch rivals Sunni Saudi Arabia and Shiite Iran will be a far from easy task let alone announcing any concrete sanctions agreed between the 57 OIC member states.
At a joint press conference after talks in Ankara late Monday, Erdogan said he and Russian President Vladimir Putin had taken a similar approach on the issue, accusing Israel of continuing to “add fuel to the flames.”

Parts of southern Syria make up one zone. Another lies in the rebel bastion of Eastern Ghouta near Damascus, while a third is in the central province of Homs.

Several key Cabinet posts remain vacant.
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi vowed to have nominations for the defense and interior minister posts ready to present to Parliament within a week.
Monday’s Parliament vote, just a day before a constitutional deadline, comes as Iraq faces political turmoil and battles a surge of Islamist militants from ISIS.
Along with al-Maliki, former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi and former speaker of Parliament Osama al-Nujaifi will also serve as vice presidents. Allawi and Al-Maliki are longtime political foes.
The vice presidential post is largely ceremonial, but al-Maliki’s appointment leaves him in a visible position of power.
Critics have accused al-Maliki of consolidating power and persecuting political rivals, blaming him for fueling Iraq’s problems with sectarian policies that alienated Sunni Muslims.
Iraqi politicians have been under intense pressure from the United States to form an inclusive government representing Sunni, Shia and Kurds. U.S. President Barack Obama has said that would be a key condition for more U.S. support, and an important step in fighting militants from ISIS, the Sunni extremist group that calls itself the Islamic State.
On Monday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said the government’s formation is “unquestionably a major milestone,” adding that it “has the potential to unite all of Iraq’s diverse communities.”
“Now is the time for Iraq’s leaders to govern their nation with the same vision and sense of purpose that helped bring this new government together in the first place,” Kerry said. “In that effort they should know that the United States will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Iraqis as they implement their national plan.”
A spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the new government is a “positive step towards political stability and peace” in Iraq.
It’s too soon to say whether Monday’s reshuffling will quell tensions and win over members Iraq’s Sunni minority, who bitterly complained of being marginalizedand cut out of the political process by al-Maliki’s Shiite-dominated government.
A more inclusive government, Obama said last month, would give confidence to Sunnis that ISIS “is not the only game in town.”
Outlining his government program Monday, al-Abadi vowed to rebuild security forces, stamp out corruption and make sure weapons were only in the hands of the state — not militia groups.
Iraq is “under a vicious attack,” he said, and security forces will fight until “victory.”
Whether the new government will be able to settle political differences and bring the country together remains to be seen. Libya slipped into political turmoil after a NATO backed air campaign helped rebels topple autocrat Muammar Gaddafi five years ago. Paris played a leading part in the campaign, but has regretted the lack of support given to the authorities afterwards.
Since 2014 the country has had two competing sets of parliaments and governments in Tripoli and the east, both backed by loose alliances of armed brigades.

After Israel withdrew in 2000, Hezbollah resisted pressure to disarm and continued to strengthen its military wing, the Islamic Resistance. In some ways, its capabilities now exceed those of the Lebanese army, its considerable firepower used against Israel in the 2006 war.
The group also gradually became a key power broker in Lebanon’s political system, and has effectively gained veto power in the cabinet.
Hezbollah has been accused of carrying out a string of bombings and plots against Jewish and Israeli targets and is designated a terrorist organisation by Western states, Israel, Gulf Arab countries and the Arab League.
Some Lebanese consider Hezbollah a threat to the country’s stability, but it is enduringly popular within the Shia community. To end the sectarian clashes that left 81 people dead and brought Lebanon to the brink of a new civil war, the government backed down and a power-sharing agreement gave Hezbollah and its allies the power to veto any cabinet decision. In 2009 elections it won 10 seats in parliament and remained in the unity government. Later that year, Hezbollah’s secretary general Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah issued a new political manifesto that sought to highlight the group’s “political vision”. It dropped the reference to an Islamic republic found in the 1985 manifesto, but maintained a tough line against Israel and the US and said Hezbollah needed to keep its weapons.
