Chapter 12  As Dr. Heiser said, “Some important items here need development.” 

Chapters 4 through 7 are happening in heaven. Chapter 12* is a parenthetical, a spiritual glance of Israel, and the Christ, and the Great Red Dragon Satan being cast to earth for his last 7 years before the millennium.  The sealing of the saints on their foreheads, the saints are given garments, and worship God. The description of heaven is here. John is taken into heaven and he gets to see the Lord, sitting on His throne.

Chapter 12

A Parenthetical, a spiritual glance of Israel, The Christ, the Great Red Dragon Satan being cast to earth. The Great Red Dragon Satan trying to kill the Promise, the Secret of God. It is the spiritual warfare that is going on. So, I have placed Rev 12:1 through 12:12 to precede Chapter 6. 

WOMAN

Rev 12:1  NOW a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars.

The identity of the woman is found in Genesis 37:9, as we read of the dream of Joseph, how the sun and the moon and the eleven stars bowed down to him and so the same figure here. We have the identity of the woman as the nation of Israel, those twelve tribes that came out of Jacob.  

Rev 12:2  Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth. Isa 26:17; 66:7;  

Isa 26:17  Like as a woman with child, [that] draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, [and] crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD.
Isa 66:7  Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child. Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? [or] shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

GREAT DRAGON

Rev 12:3  And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads.  also see: Rev 9:2,11; 11:7; 12:3,7,9,13; 13:1; 17:3,8,16; 19:20; 20:2,3,10;

This ‘great, fiery red dragon has 7 heads, 10 horns, 7 diadems (crowns). [12:3 Satan]
The beast that rises up out of the sea [out of the world of men] has 7 heads, 10 horns and 10 crowns. [13:1 Gentile World Power controlled/led by Satan.] The Scarlet Coloured Beast! Full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns and 10 crowns.!

Every nation/state of the Middle East has united against Israel, with plans for her destruction! 7 heads, 10 horns and 10 crowns, all of them united! The struggle amongst the nations/states of ‘The Scarlet Coloured Beast’ is ‘who‘ will be their ‘leader’!  The 10 horns are the 10 kings – *Rev 17:12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. Rev 17:16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

10 “There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, [and] the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time {ISIS Leader?}.

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then [I saw] the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received [his] mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

Rev 12:4  His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. Rev 12:5  She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. Rev 2:27; Dan7:14; 1 Cor 2:7-8;

Her Child C. The child. 1. (5) Jesus’ ministry is described by its earthly beginning and end. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. a. A male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: Clearly, this refers to Jesus Christ, the Messiah. He rules the world with a rod of iron (Psalm 2 and Revelation19:15). b. She bore a male Child refers to Jesus’ birth. Rule all nations with a rod of iron refers to the triumphant return of Jesus. By stating the “bookends” of Jesus’ earthly work, John alludes to all that stands in between. 1. “After a conflict with the Prince of this world, who came and tried Him, but found nothing in Him, the Son of the woman was taken up to heaven and sat on the right hand of God. Words can hardly be plainer than these.” (Alford)

c. This male Child is obviously Jesus. This means that the woman of Revelation 12:1 cannot be the church, because Jesus “gives birth” to the church, not the other way around. The woman must therefore either be Mary or Israel, the only two “women” who could have “given birth” to Jesus. The rest of Revelation 12 will demonstrate that this woman is Israel, not Mary.

WAR AND VICTORY

The leaders of the world will be saying, “Peace, peace,” and the calamity around us may be shocking, but in an instant we who remain will be changed and delivered from His wrath, according to His promises! Amen! 

Deu 32:30 How could one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, Unless their Rock had sold them, And the LORD had surrendered them? (ISIS chasing and putting ten thousand to flight?)

WHO HAS THE DRAGON GIVEN HIS POWER, HIS THRONE, AND GREAT AUTHORITY?

Dan 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. 21But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.
Dan 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. (I earnestly believe this is the day of the rapture and those of us who remain, out of this day of trouble, will be raptured to be forever with our Lord.)

Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. (I ponder this verse like it is Father God telling us verse Rev 12:9 was fulfilled this day.)

Rev 12:10  Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.”

BABYLON  (Scofield, C. I. “Scofield Reference Notes on Isaiah 13″. “Scofield Reference Notes (1917 Edition)”. <http://www.studylight.org/com/srn/view.cgi?book=isa&chapter=013&gt;. 1917.)  The city, Babylon is not in view here, as the immediate context shows. It is important to note the significance of the name when used symbolically. “Babylon” is the Greek form: invariably in the O.T. Hebrew the word is simply Babel, the meaning of which is confusion, and in this sense the word is used symbolically. (1) In the prophets, when the actual city is not meant, the reference is to the “confusion” into which the whole social order of the world has fallen under Gentile world-domination. (See “Times of the Gentiles,” Luke 21:24; Revelation 16:14; Isaiah 13:4 gives the divine view of the welter of warring Gentile powers. The divine order is given in Isa. 11. Israel in her own land, the centre of the divine government of the world and channel of the divine blessing; and the Gentiles blessed in association with Israel. Anything else is, politically, mere “babel.” (2) In Revelation 14:8-11; 16:19 the Gentile world-system is in view in connection with Armageddon; Revelation 16:14; 19:21 while in Rev 17, the reference is to apostate Christianity, destroyed by the nations Revelation 17:16 headed up under the Beast ; Daniel 7:8; Revelation 19:20 and false prophet. In Isaiah the political Babylon is in view, literally as to the then existing city, and symbolically as to the times of the Gentiles. In the Revelation both the symbolical- political and symbolical-religious Babylon are in view, for there both are alike under the tyranny of the Beast. Religious Babylon is destroyed by political Babylon Revelation 17:16 political Babylon by the appearing of the Lord Revelation 19:19-21. That Babylon the city is not to be rebuilt is clear from ; Isaiah 13:19-22; Jeremiah 51:24-26,62-64. By political Babylon is meant the Gentile world-system. (See “World,” ; John 7:7; Revelation 13:8) It may be added that, in Scripture symbolism, Egypt stands for the world as such; Babylon for the world of corrupt power and corrupted religion; Nineveh for the pride, the haughty glory of the world.
