CHAPTER 1 – What must I do to be saved?

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED

‘If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved’ (Rom 10:9);

(Jesus Christ is the) One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead. Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins. Acts 10:35-43

‘But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the children of God, even to those who believe in his name;’ John 1:12

Jesus said ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life’ John 3:16

‘He that believes in the son has eternal life.’ John 3:36a

‘I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the person whose ears are open to My words-who listens to My message-and believes and trusts in and clings to and relies on Him Who sent Me has (possess now) eternal life. And he does not come into judgment-does not incur sentence of judgment, will not come under condemnation-but he has already passed over out of death into life.’ John 5:24 Amplified

‘Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word, and believes Him who sent me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.’ John 5:24 American Standard

‘This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.’ John 6:28

‘For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.’ John 6:40

‘No man can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him: and I will raise him up on the last day.’ John 6:44

‘Verily, verily, I say to you, He who believes has eternal life.’ John 6:47

‘My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give eternal life to them; and they will never perish, and none will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.’ John 10:27-30

Jesus said unto her, ‘I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? John 11:25,26

‘Father, you have given your son authority over all men to give eternal life to all that you have given to him. And this is eternal life, to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.’ John 17:1-3

‘Because God’s love for you, supremely expressed at Calvary, can now be manifested ‘much more’ and so accomplish His every desire for you.’ God commendeth His Love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Because of His delight in the Son, God can never reject the prayer of the Son asking Him to keep ‘them which thou hast given me.’ ‘I pray for them… for they are thine’. ‘Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me.’ (John 17:9,11)

‘the gospel of Christ, it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes’ Romans 1:16

‘Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.’ Romans 4:7-8

‘God demonstrates His Love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.’ Romans 5:8

‘but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.’ Romans 6:23

‘There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.’ ‘Who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.’ Romans 8:1,34

‘No condemnation now hangs over the head of those who are in Jesus Christ. Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not reckon sin.’ (Romans 8:1,34) (JB Phillips New Testament in Modern English) (Emphasis Mine)

‘If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved’ Rom 10:9

‘For with the heart a man believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth he confesses resulting in salvation.’ Romans 10:10

‘For the scripture says, whosoever believes in him will not be disappointed for there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him. For whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.’ Romans 10:11-12

‘He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit, Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ, our Saviour, That, being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life’ Titus 3:5

‘For ye have need of patience that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise,’ Hebrews 10:36(After Ye Have Done The Will of God’ (This means Believed in Jesus, accepted him as your Saviour.))

‘The Lord which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all), you yourselves know the thing which took place throughout all Judea, starting from Gallilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed. You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. We are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross. God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He become visible, not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, that is, to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead. Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins. Acts 10:35-43 N.A.S. This is ‘The Gospel,’ ‘The Good News’

‘and Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; and put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.’ Acts 17 (Emphasis Mine)

Paul says in Galatians 2:14 thru 6:18 ‘But when I saw that they were not straight forward about the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles, and not like the Jews, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as do the Jews? Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. This only would I hear of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. The just shall live by faith. ‘Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen’ (Emphasis Mine)

‘Now brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of the first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more that five hundred (500) of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also’ 1 Cor 15: 1-8 (Emphasis Mine)

‘How complete, how all-inclusive! Grace saves, justifies, builds up, makes accepted, redeems, forgives, bestows an inheritance, gives standing before God, provides a throne of grace to which we may come boldly for mercy and help; it teaches us how to live and gives us a blessed hope! As old Bunyan said: “The believer is now, by faith in the Lord Jesus, shrouded under so perfect and blessed a righteousness, that this thundering law of Mount Sinai cannot find the least fault or diminution therein.”’ (Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth Scofield) (This is called the righteousness of God without the law.”). (Mine)

‘Should this meet the eye of an unbeliever, he is affectionately exhorted to accept the true sentence of that holy and just law which he has violated: for there is no difference: for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God’ (Rom. 3:22-23). In Christ such will find a perfect and eternal salvation, as it is written: ‘If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved’ (Rom 10:9); for Christ is ‘the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believes” (Rom. 10:4). (Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth Scofield)

For we are vessels of mercy – That he might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory. For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son…..(Romans 9:23, 8:29)

Because Gods infinite power is no longer hindered by your sins, but can wholly keep you safe, for the Blood of Christ still removes your guilt. He is the propitiation for our sins (1 John 2:2)

‘Because the death of the Son, having a value equivalent to the punishment demanded for all your sins, has paid also for sins you now commit. ‘There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. ‘Who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.’ (Romans 8:1, 34) (J B Phillips New Testament in Modern English)

‘Because by the resurrection of Christ, God has broken your connection with Adam and joined you to Christ for acceptance and life.’ ‘You being dead in your sins… hath he quickened (enlifed) together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses.’ ‘Yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead.’ (Colossians 2:13; Romans 6:13) The Green Letters – Miles Standford

He did not just arrive as a baby 2000 years ago, He is the Word of God, He and the Father are one, From Heaven He came here, to show to us the Love and Kindness of the Father toward us, and to Save Us. He is the Alpha and the Omega, The Beginning and the End. The Lord God Almighty. (Mine)

Psalms 27:4, 13, 14 ‘One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.’ ‘I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord.’

This is ‘The Gospel,’ ‘The Good News’

Acts 10:38-43 N.A.S. ‘You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. We are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross. Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.’

1 Cor 15: 1-8 ‘By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of the first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. ‘I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord.’ Psalms 27:4,13,14

We have only one plea, that in the ‘Last Days’ those who believe the door of salvation will ‘shut and no man can open,’ those who ‘think’ they can believe in the Savior ‘After’ the Rapture and still be saved; Accept the Free Gift of Salvation Now!

2 Thessalonians 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains [will do so] until He is taken out of the way.
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
The coming of the [lawless one] is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,
and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,
that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

BABYLON (Scofield, C. I. “Scofield Reference Notes on Isaiah 13″. “Scofield Reference Notes (1917 Edition)”. <http://www.studylight.org/com/srn/view.cgi?book=isa&chapter=013>. 1917.) The city, Babylon is not in view here, as the immediate context shows. It is important to note the significance of the name when used symbolically. “Babylon” is the Greek form: invariably in the O.T. Hebrew the word is simply Babel, the meaning of which is confusion, and in this sense the word is used symbolically. (1) In the prophets, when the actual city is not meant, the reference is to the “confusion” into which the whole social order of the world has fallen under Gentile world-domination. (See “Times of the Gentiles,” Luke 21:24Revelation 16:14Isaiah 13:4 gives the divine view of the welter of warring Gentile powers. The divine order is given in Isa. 11. Israel in her own land, the centre of the divine government of the world and channel of the divine blessing; and the Gentiles blessed in association with Israel. Anything else is, politically, mere “babel.” (2) In Revelation 14:8-1116:19 the Gentile world-system is in view in connection with Armageddon; Revelation 16:1419:21 while in Rev 17, the reference is to apostate Christianity, destroyed by the nations Revelation 17:16 headed up under the Beast ; Daniel 7:8Revelation 19:20 and false prophet. In Isaiah the political Babylon is in view, literally as to the then existing city, and symbolically as to the times of the Gentiles. In the Revelation both the symbolical- political and symbolical-religious Babylon are in view, for there both are alike under the tyranny of the Beast. Religious Babylon is destroyed by political Babylon Revelation 17:16 political Babylon by the appearing of the Lord Revelation 19:19-21. That Babylon the city is not to be rebuilt is clear from ; Isaiah 13:19-22Jeremiah 51:24-26,62-64. By political Babylon is meant the Gentile world-system. (See “World,” ; John 7:7Revelation 13:8) It may be added that, in Scripture symbolism, Egypt stands for the world as such; Babylon for the world of corrupt power and corrupted religion; Nineveh for the pride, the haughty glory of the world.
